Retaining Wall Experts in Toronto & the GTA

Retaining walls do much more than hold back earth. They transform unusable slopes into level, landscaped spaces, prevent erosion, manage water drainage, and add striking visual elements to your property. At Infinity Landscaping, we design and build retaining walls that are engineered for Ontario's unique soil conditions, drainage challenges, and freeze-thaw cycles.

We work with a range of materials to suit every project and budget. Massive armour stone walls deliver a bold, natural look and are ideal for larger grade changes. Engineered concrete block systems offer precise engineering, clean lines, and a wide variety of colour and texture options. For garden walls and raised planters, we use natural stone and decorative block that add beauty and function to your landscape.

Every retaining wall we build includes proper drainage behind the structure, because water pressure is the leading cause of wall failure. We install perforated drainage tile, filter fabric, and clear gravel backfill on every project. For walls exceeding 1 metre in height, we coordinate with licensed engineers to ensure full compliance with Ontario building codes.

Retaining Wall FAQs

Do retaining walls need a permit in Ontario?
In Ontario, retaining walls exceeding 1 metre (approximately 3.3 feet) in height typically require a building permit and may need an engineer-stamped design. Requirements vary by municipality. We handle all permit applications and engineering coordination so you do not have to worry about compliance.
How long do retaining walls last?
A properly engineered and installed retaining wall will last 50 years or more. The key factors are correct footing depth, adequate drainage behind the wall, and quality materials. We use premium concrete block systems, natural armour stone, and clear gravel backfill to ensure long-term structural integrity.
What is the best material for a retaining wall in Ontario?
It depends on the application. Armour stone is ideal for large, natural-looking walls and can handle significant loads. Engineered concrete block systems (such as Allan Block or Verti-Block) offer precise engineering and a clean, modern look. For smaller garden walls and raised beds, natural stone or decorative block provides both function and beauty.
Why is drainage behind a retaining wall so important?
Water pressure (hydrostatic pressure) is the number-one cause of retaining wall failure. Without proper drainage, water accumulates behind the wall and pushes it outward. We install perforated drainage tile wrapped in filter fabric at the base of every wall, backfill with clear gravel, and grade the top to direct surface water away from the structure.
